When designing livestock buildings, it is necessary to take into account all the little things: the health of the animals, their productivity and product quality, and, of course, the profitability of the farm depends on them.
A very important point is the operation of the farm. The more convenient it is for the staff to service the animals and equipment, the less costs are spent on operation, the cheaper the products and the higher the owner's profit.

Calculation of buildings and structures
for a dairy farm
To begin work on the design of the MTF, it is necessary to determine the number of milking herds, choose the method of keeping - tethered or untethered. Decide how much livestock will be kept on the farm: how the herd will be replenished, whether steers and culled cows will be fattened on the farm.
And then we determine the number and sizes of the main buildings of our farm:
- cowsheds with walks - even with tethered keeping, cows must necessarily walk for several hours a day,
- a maternity ward with a prophylactic room for calves,
- veal,
- milk block,
- facilities for storing fodder: silage and hay trenches, hay hangars, compound fodder and vegetable warehouses,
- warehouses for storing bedding material (sawdust, straw, peat),
- manure storage
And also with a large number of animals, you can equip the farm with:
- veterinary department,
- sanitary slaughterhouse.
From the auxiliary premises, it is necessary to provide:
- barriers at the entrance and exit of the farm,

Calculation of buildings and structures
for a fattening farm for beef cattle
Here it is very important to choose the optimal technology for this farm. It can be a full-cycle technology, it is used when using specialized breeds of beef cattle: the content of the mother herd, obtaining calves, growing calves under the uterus, rearing up to 10-12 months. and fattening up to the desired condition, up to 14-18 months. After that, the cattle are handed over for slaughter.
Calves are reared in a stall-walking manner, and final fattening is carried out in closed rooms, with restrictions on livestock movement.
For cattle fattening, calves (bulls) aged 10-30 days are bought at specialized sites, raised in equipped calf pens, and transferred to sites with insulated canopies for the cold season for growing and fattening. When using such sites, of course, feed consumption increases, so this option is suitable for farms that have their own sufficient feed base.
For full-cycle farms, we install brooder cows:
- for cows after weaning calves,
- for ceiling nuts,
- for nursing mothers.
- maternity ward for cows with newborn calves.
- corrals for rearing calves, and fattening areas for fattening cattle.

The method of keeping cows and calves can be tethered or untethered, on deep bedding, on mats. We choose the method of maintenance in accordance with the climatic zone and the provision of the farm with bedding material: it can be straw, peat, and if there is a wood processing enterprise nearby - sawdust.
On a dairy farm, we determine the most suitable method of milking cows - in a milk duct, in milking parlors, with robots and establish the frequency of milking.
Next, we look at where, how and what kind of fodder we will feed the cattle: we install a fodder table for monofodder in the cowshed; if we give fodder separately, then we put feeders for coarse fodder (hay) in the walking yards, feeders for juicy fodder and combined fodder in the cowshed, or, as an option, part of the combined fodder can be heard in the milking hall during milking.
We also choose an option for raising calves. Recently, many farms have switched to the cold method of raising calves - in plastic houses on the street at any time of the year. Calves are hardened almost from the first day of life, become resistant to diseases and strong, eat feed better and, accordingly, grow faster. But in the northern regions, it is more practical to put the calves in insulated rooms for the winter to avoid frostbite during low temperatures, because the babies' ears and nasal mirror suffer greatly from frost.
Equipment. We select the main technological equipment, taking into account that it must work without interruption on the farm all year round.
Violation of the feeding regime reduces the productivity of cows by 15-20%, and interruption of drinking can cause dehydration of highly productive animals. Failure of the milking equipment will definitely cause mastitis in the herd. Failure of ventilation in the calf house can cause colds and infectious diseases, and the death of young animals.

Milking equipment on the farm is a key technological link. The quality of milk products depends on the quality of the milking and cooling equipment, and the health of the cow depends on the operation of the milking machine. We determine the throughput capacity of the milking parlor for farms with unattached content - by the number of milking herds, taking into account the planned changes and the frequency of milking. For farms with tied content with a small number of livestock in the cowshed, the most optimal option is milking in the milk duct.
We choose the type and quantity of feed distribution equipment depending on the way animals are kept and the layout of the farm. We take into account productivity by the number of technological groups of animals, the number of livestock, the frequency of feeding and the types of feed processed.
It is important to calculate the farm's water supply - water is used not only for watering animals, and a high-yielding cow needs to drink 100-120 liters of water per day at the peak of lactation, but also for sanitary and economic expenses, and also for fire-fighting water reserves.
The operation of manure removal equipment must comply with sanitary and hygienic standards. The choice of equipment depends on the method of keeping, the number of heads in the barn, and the availability of litter. The manure removal system can be hydraulic, mechanical, or simply a bulldozer rakes out litter twice a year, the main thing is reliability and uninterrupted operation.
We select the manure storage option, taking into account the climatic zone, the relief of the area and the amount of precipitation. It can be a buried, semi-buried, surface, closed or open manure storage. The main requirement is that the filtration of manure and sewage effluents should be excluded.
Designing is carried out only taking into account and in accordance with the norms of all relevant normative documents of the National Technical and Technical Regulations, SNiP, SanPiN and RD-APK.
