Проект капітального ремонту школи розробляється на підставі проведеного обстеження конструкцій. Залежно від стану будівлі проводяться роботи з:

1. заміні покрівлі;
2. усунення невеликих дефектів стін;
3. облицювання або утеплення фасаду;
4. повної або часткової заміни віконних та дверних заповнень;
5. внутрішні оздоблювальні роботи;
6. заміні підлогових покриттів;
7. часткову заміну або ремонт дерев'яних міжповерхових перекриттів.

Специфічні вимоги при ремонті шкіл пред'являються переважно до оздоблювальних матеріалів. Вони повинні бути безпечними для здоров'я людини та відповідати призначенню приміщень.

The floor coverings selected at the design stage must meet the following requirements:

• strength and resistance to long-term loads;
  
• environmental friendliness and hygiene;
  
• ease of care;
  
• injury safety and non-slip surface.

Commercial linoleum, rubber coverings best meet these characteristics. For sports halls, parquet board or laminate is most often used. According to regulatory documents, ceramic tiles with a non-slip matte coating are used.

According to "Sanitary norms and rules", the color of ceilings, windows and doors should be white. For the walls, the project should provide for the use of yellow, pink, green or blue paint. All surfaces must be smooth, without gaps.

A school reconstruction project is necessary when the building has significant damage or cannot accommodate the required number of students. During the reconstruction, complexes of works to increase the useful area, as well as measures aimed at increasing the level of safety, may be performed:

1. superstructure of one or more floors;
   
2. addition of additional volumes;
   
3. replacement of wooden floors with fire-resistant ones (reinforced concrete, on metal beams);
   
4. strengthening of foundation structures;
   
5. replacement of load-bearing walls or their strengthening.

Before the development of project documentation for reconstruction, the following are carried out:

• technical examination and verification of the load-bearing capacity of structures;
  
• geodetic searches;
  
• measuring works.

It is allowed to build additional floors only if there is a sufficient supply of foundations in terms of bearing capacity. School classrooms can be arranged in the premises under construction.

It is not recommended to place sports and assembly halls, libraries and archives, taking into account the increased load. When allocating the premises on the second and higher floors to the gym, it is necessary to take measures to increase sound insulation. Canteens and cafes are not allowed.

The volumes that are added during the development of the school reconstruction project are most often converted into libraries, halls and catering establishments, and classrooms are equipped in the vacated spaces in the existing building. It is important that, according to regulatory documents, the school building after reconstruction must ensure the educational process in one shift.

During the reconstruction, the conformity of the area of the classrooms with the number of students studying in them is also checked. If necessary, the layout of the existing building is changed. The project must be approved by state authorities. If necessary, an examination is carried out.

Carrying out capital repairs in the school is possible in the summer period, when the educational process is stopped. Work on the construction of the annex can be carried out without interrupting studies, more serious reconstruction will require the suspension of classes.

The main difficulties and mistakes
with independent design:

1. Lack of an agreed project of the Sanitary Protection Zone (SZZ)
2. Lack of metering devices and objective (calculated) data on the required productivity.
3. Lack of title deeds to the land.
4. Inaccuracies in the preparation of the Terms of Reference: all the necessary studies were not taken into account, the documents listed above were not taken into account.
5. The justification of the price was performed incorrectly, on the basis of commercial proposals of non-specialized organizations, without taking into account the fulfillment of the requirements of technical conditions, the need for inspection of buildings and structures, etc.
6. Surveys, research, and design are performed by different companies, which causes delays and additional work.
